Across this term, the Year Twos have been exploring where their learning can take them across each subject of the curriculum. During Religious Education, students explored the Sacraments of Eucharist and Prayer. For these, students created posters to display their understanding and together as a class, created a prayer book. In English, students discovered a range of new reading strategies and put these into practice with the books read in class, at home and in the library. The Year Twos learnt a new sound or spelling pattern each week participating in spelling groups and activities each day. Students wrote their very own persuasive texts on a topic of their choice. In Mathematics, students participated in hands-on activities to help them grasp each topic including creating their own 3D shapes to display within the classroom. In Health, students identified strategies and behaviours that promote health and well-being through healthy eating, regular exercise, staying hydrated, practising good hygiene, and getting sufficient sleep. They designed a poster with a catchy slogan promoting healthy eating, showing how the media can influence choices. In Geography, students have been learning to name and locate the continents and oceans of the world in relation to Australia. They created a poster using the Book Creator app on the iPad for a continent of their choice with the help of books, maps and the internet to research information. Students participated in two incursions including a visit from “Little Einstein’s” where they could expand their scientific thinking and the RAC incursion where students learnt how they can stay safe within the community.
